There's a lot of exciting stuff happening at work. About a month ago I had the opportunity to create an image for the Amazon Game Studios unboxing event at Twitch Con this year. It was for a project called "New World" (which is the game I'm working on). If you're interested you can find out more here: https://games.amazon.com/games .
Shadow Fish
I got home from work today and needed to relax, so I sat in my favorite reading chair and treated myself to the great literary classic "One fish two fish red fish blue fish" by Dr.Seuss. Inspired by the aquatic theme of the first 6 pages in the book, I decided to paint another fish study. He doesn't quite have the same personality as a Seuss fish, but it's something to strive for!
Triton
I made a few adjustments a few adjustments after getting feedback from a buddy of mine.
Went to Sea World a couple of weeks ago... when I was there I took a lot of pictures. I finally got around to looking at them and decided to make a little study of one. This fish study inspired me to concept a merman, so in between working on a model for the day job I painted this character.
Into Darkness
I was working on a larger project and was getting really frustrated so I thought I would take a break and sketch for awhile.
This is the result. I was hesitant to post it, there is something about the horns... I don't know I just don't think they're big enough :)
The Executioner
Ancient One
Another creature inspired by H.P. Lovecraft...
My hope is to paint enough of these creatures to fill a book.
Laughing
I was feeling frustrated and filled with self doubt yesterday, so I thought I would try to sketch what I was feeling... strangely, however, this fellow turned up laughing at my self pity.
kētos
sea monster concept
Creature Sketch in Zbrush
A warrior of an alien people...still in their Stone Age.
For anyone interested in the process, I started with a sphere and focused on getting the pose right first. Usually I will block out the proportions first in a neutral pose, taking advantage of "symmetry", then I'll pose it later. This time I thought it would be fun to try something different. The details are limited to a few places and overall I kept it pretty rough for the sake of getting it done quickly. It was a fun experiment.
